The Pilchuck River is a river located in Snohomish County, in the state of Washington, United States. It is a smaller river that flows into a larger one, called the Snohomish River. The name "Pilchuck" comes from an old language called Chinook Jargon. It means "red water," because pilpil means "blood" or "red," and chuck means "water."
Journey of the Pilchuck River
The Pilchuck River starts high up in the Cascade Range mountains. From there, it flows mostly west. When it reaches the town of Granite Falls, it changes direction and starts flowing south.
Where the River Flows
As it travels south, the Pilchuck River passes by small towns like Lochsloy and Machias. Finally, it joins the Snohomish River near the city of Snohomish. The Snohomish River then continues its journey and empties into Possession Sound, which is a part of the big Puget Sound.
River and Trail Adventures
If you like walking or biking, you might enjoy the Centennial Trail. This trail runs right alongside the Pilchuck River for many miles, from Machias all the way to Snohomish. It's a great way to see the river up close!
