History of Piletas
Becoming Part of the United States
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States in 1898. This happened because of an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
Early Population Count
In 1899, the United States government took a census (a count of people) in Puerto Rico. They found that 2,455 people lived in Piletas barrio at that time. The population has grown quite a bit since then!

Important Places in Piletas
School Becomes Community Center
In 2017, Puerto Rico and the town of Lares were facing economic challenges. Community leaders decided to use empty public schools to help the local farming industry. One of these schools was in Piletas Arce, located on Puerto Rico Highway 129. This old school was turned into a helpful community center for farmers in the area.
Local Restaurant
There's a restaurant called La Piramide de Piletas Restaurant in Sector Las Lajas. It was even featured by the Puerto Rico Department of Tourism in their "Discover Puerto Rico" campaign. This means it's a cool spot to visit!
