Pilmaiquén facts for kids
The Pilmaiquén River is a small river, also called a stream, in the area of Cañete in Arauco Province in the Bío Bío Region of Chile. It flows southwest towards the big Pacific Ocean. The river is located northwest of the city of Cañete.
It's a short river, but it carries a lot of water. It flows through a small valley surrounded by forests and mountains. The Pilmaiquén River eventually joins another river called the Licauquén River.
A Special Valley
The valley where the Pilmaiquén River flows was once a very important place for the Moluche people. The Moluche are a group of the Mapuche people. This valley was their homeland.
Home of a Hero: Caupolicán
The Pilmaiquén valley was also the home of a famous Mapuche leader named Caupolicán. He was a brave Toqui, which means a war chief. Caupolicán led the Mapuche people in their first big fight against the Spanish Empire. This was a very important time in Chilean history.
