Since 1895, after some border changes, Pilot Hill has been the highest point in the modern area of Hampshire. However, it is not the historic highest point of the county. That record belongs to Walbury Hill, which is 297 meters high and lies about 2 miles to the northwest.

Pilot Hill is found about 7 miles southwest of Newbury. It sits right on the border between Hampshire and Berkshire. This hill is part of a larger area called the North Hampshire Downs.
