Pine Apple is special because it has two places listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are the Hawthorne House and the Pine Apple Historic District.

History of Pine Apple
The town of Pine Apple was first planned out in 1825. Back then, it had a different name: Friendship.
In 1852, the town's name was changed to Pine Apple. This new name came about because there were many pine trees and apple groves growing near the town.
