Pineland is a small community located on Pine Island in Lee County, Florida, United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined by the government for counting people. In 2020, about 466 people lived there. Pineland is part of the larger Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Where is Pineland Located?
Pineland is found in the western part of Lee County, Florida. It sits on the western side of Pine Island, close to its northern tip. To the north and east, you'll find Bokeelia. To the south is Pine Island Center.
Pineland's Natural Borders
On its western side, Pineland is next to Pine Island Sound. This sound is a part of the Gulf of Mexico. The community's northeastern edge is marked by Stringfellow Road. This road runs all the way along Pine Island from north to south.
How Big is Pineland?
Pineland covers a total area of about 2.4 square kilometers (0.92 square miles). Most of this area is land. Only a small part, about 0.07 square kilometers (0.03 square miles), is water.
A Glimpse into Pineland's Past
Pineland is a very old place. It was once home to one of Florida's largest and oldest native settlements. People lived here for at least 2,000 years. Different groups of people lived here over time.
Who Were the Calusa People?
The Calusa people lived in this area for about 1,500 years. They were here long before Europeans arrived. The Calusa called this place "Tampa" or "Tanpa." Later, European explorers accidentally gave this name to a city further north.
