History of Pioneer
Pioneer was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1853. Before that, a post office had already opened in the area in 1851, helping people send and receive mail.
In 1903, an electric train line, called the Toledo and Western Railway, started running to Pioneer. This train was meant for passengers and came all the way from Toledo. People hoped it would be part of a bigger electric train system connecting Toledo to Chicago, but it never went further than Pioneer. The passenger service stopped in 1933. However, the line continued to carry goods until 1943, operating as the Pioneer and Fayette Railroad from 1934.
