Philippa Elaine Fanti Bennett-Warner (born 23 July 1988) is a talented British actress. She started acting when she was a child. One of her first big roles was playing young Nala in the original London production of The Lion King in 1999.

She has been nominated for awards for her work in plays like Caroline, or Change (2006) and King Lear (2010). You might also know her from TV shows. She starred in the crime drama Gangs of London (starting in 2020). She also appeared in the BBC thrillers Roadkill (2020) and Chloe (2022).

About Philippa's Early Life

Philippa Bennett-Warner grew up in Buckinghamshire, England. She went to St Edward's School in Oxford. Her family background is from Jamaica and Saint Kitts. She has an older sister named Georgina.

Philippa's Acting Journey

Starting as a Young Actress (1999–2009)

Philippa's acting career began in 1999. She was part of the first London cast of The Lion King. She played the role of young Nala.

In 2006, she joined the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). This is a famous drama school. Around the same time, she got the role of Emmie Thibodeaux in the musical Caroline, or Change. For this role, she was nominated for a "Newcomer of the Year" award in 2007.

She also played the main role in a play called Victory. This was before she started her full training at RADA in 2007.

Growing Her Career (2010–Present)

Philippa finished her studies at RADA in 2010. She left a little early to take on a role in the play Ruined. This play was shown at the Almeida Theatre in London.

After Ruined, she acted in a short TV film called Crocodile. She also got a part in Michael Grandage's famous play King Lear. In this play, she acted alongside Derek Jacobi. She played Cordelia, King Lear's daughter.

Before King Lear rehearsals, she filmed small parts in TV shows. These included Come Fly With Me and Case Histories.

Philippa received praise for her role in King Lear. She then joined the play The Swan at the National Theatre. The role of Denise was written especially for her. Later, she played Queen Isabel in Richard II. Critics really liked her performance in this play.

In 2012, she played the main role in The Witness. This play was at the Royal Court Theatre. She got excellent reviews for her natural acting style. She was even nominated for a "Best Actress" award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. She was also named one of London's most influential young people.

Philippa has also done a lot of voice work. In 2016, she narrated Zadie Smith's book Swing Time. From 2018 to 2019, she voiced Maya Angelou for a BBC Radio 4 series. In 2020, she narrated Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo for the BBC.

Philippa's Personal Life

Philippa is an Ambassador for The Theatres Trust. This organization helps protect and support theatres.

She is good friends with actor Jonathan Bailey. They worked together in the Doctor Who episode "Time Heist" in 2014.
