Sayyid Ali Tirmizi, better known as Pir Baba, was an important Sufi saint. He was a Sayyid, meaning he was a descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Pir Baba settled in Buner, which is now in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He lived among the Yusufzai Pashtuns.

Pir Baba was likely born around 1502 CE in Fergana, a place in modern-day Uzbekistan. He passed away in 1583 CE. He supported the Mughal emperor Babar. Pir Baba was known for preaching Islam and guiding people.

His father, Sayyid Qamar Ali, was part of Emperor Babur's army. His mother was from Uzbekistan. Pir Baba was very interested in studying Islam from a young age. He reportedly married a sister of Daulat Khan. Daulat Khan was a respected leader from the Yusufzai tribe in Buner.

Pir Baba had two sons. Their names were Sayyid Habibullāh Shaah and Sayyid Mustafa Shaah. His family line continues to this day. His descendants are also known as Tirmizi Sayyids. One of his descendants, Anwar Baig Baghi, wrote over 50 books. This was amazing because he only studied up to fifth grade.

His Resting Place

Pir Baba's grave and shrine are in Pacha Killay village. This village is located in the mountainous Buner District. Many people visit his shrine to pay their respects. It is a place of peace and reflection. The shrine was temporarily closed by the Taliban at one point.

Annual Celebration

Every year, a special event called Urs Mubarak is held. It celebrates the life and teachings of Pir Baba. This pilgrimage takes place from the 24th to the 26th of Rajab. Rajab is a month in the Islamic calendar. People gather in Buner to honor his memory.
