Plantersville is a small community in Dallas County, Alabama, United States. It's not an official city or town, but a place where people live together. This community is located close to the borders of Autauga and Chilton counties.
Plantersville got its name because of the many cotton planters and large farms (called plantations) that used to be in the area. Today, Plantersville is home to Dallas County High School and J. E. Terry Elementary School.
History of Plantersville
The area now known as Plantersville was originally called Corinth. A post office was set up here in 1867, helping the community grow.
The Civil War's Impact
During the American Civil War, Plantersville saw some action. After the Battle of Ebenezer Church on April 1, 1865, Union soldiers came through the town. They burned down the local railroad station and a building where cotton was stored.
Major General James H. Wilson's troops stayed the night in Plantersville. The very next day, they moved on to fight in the important Battle of Selma. The war caused a lot of damage and hardship in the region.
Changes Over Time
Over the years, Plantersville has changed. For example, Pickering's Grocery Store, a long-standing local business, has been replaced by a modern gas station and convenience store.
