Plato is a small city located in southeastern McLeod County, Minnesota, in the United States. In 2020, about 329 people lived there.
History
The area where Plato is now located got its own post office in 1858. A post office is a place where you can send and receive mail. The city was named after a famous ancient Greek thinker called Plato. He was a very important philosopher.
Geography
Plato is found about half a mile north of U.S. Highway 212. This highway connects it to other towns. To the west, about 5 miles away, is Glencoe, which is the main town for McLeod County. To the east, about 6 miles away, is Norwood Young America. If you travel further east, downtown Minneapolis is about 48 miles away.
The city of Plato covers a total area of about 0.35 square miles. Most of this area is land, with only a tiny bit (about 1.42%) being water. A stream called Buffalo Creek flows near the northwest part of Plato. There's also a dry lakebed called Kinneson Lakebed to the east and northeast of the city.
