Playa Baracoa, sometimes called Baracoa, is a small village in Cuba. It's part of the Bauta area in Artemisa Province. In 2011, about 7,000 people lived there.

History of Playa Baracoa
Playa Baracoa started as a village in 1862. It grew around an old sugar cane mill from the 1700s. This mill was called San Cristóbal de Baracoa.
Between the 1930s and 1940s, some wealthy families from nearby Havana built their summer homes here. Many of these wooden houses are still standing today. Some are even still used as summer getaways!
Where is Playa Baracoa?
Playa Baracoa is a coastal village right by the Atlantic Ocean in Cuba. It's very close to Havana, Cuba's capital city. It even borders a part of Havana called Santa Fe.
The main campus of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) is less than 500 meters away. This school is a big medical university.
The village is built around a pretty lagoon called Laguna El Doctor. Playa Baracoa has different neighborhoods. Some of these are Cinco Casitas, Hollywood, La Loma, and Los Cocos.
Playa Baracoa is about 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Havana's city center. It's also close to other towns like Bauta (8 km away) and Caimito (16 km away).
How to Get Around Playa Baracoa
Playa Baracoa Airport
Playa Baracoa has its own small airport, Playa Baracoa Airport. This airport helps people travel to and from Havana. It's located just west of the village.
Roads and Highways
The Havana–Mariel motorway goes right through Playa Baracoa. This is a major highway in Cuba. The village is also the northern end of a road that leads to Bauta.
