The Story of Plottier
The city of Plottier is named after its founder, Dr. Alberto Plottier. He was a doctor from Uruguay. He started a farming community here a long time ago, at the beginning of the 1900s.
After the Conquest of the Desert, a military campaign, General Julio Argentino Roca wanted land near the Neuquén River. This land was important for military reasons. It was called Colonia Sayhueque.
At first, the main way people made money in this area was by raising cows and sheep.
In 1916, Plottier was part of a sad event. Prisoners escaped from the Neuquén prison. One of the escapees killed an engineer named Adolfo Plottier. A local store was also robbed.
Around 1920, the Plottier brothers began selling their land. This allowed new settlers, often immigrants, to move in. Because of this, several new communities were formed. These included el Triángulo, Colonia Suiza, San Eugenio, Viña del Río, San Agustín, and an English colony called Colonización ferrocarril Sub.
On March 26, 1935, the president of Argentina, Agustín P. Justo, officially recognized Plottier's local government. This meant Plottier became a municipality. This date is now very important to the town. It is even included in their local rules, called the Carta Orgánica Municipal.
