Building a New Community
Point Boston is currently being developed into a large, planned community. This project is managed by the Point Boston Community Corporation. When finished, it will have four main areas. Each area will contain about 250 homes. These homes will be part of a "community title" system. This means residents share ownership of common areas like parks or roads.
Early Challenges and Progress
The first families were able to move into their new homes in December 2013. There were some delays before this happened. The first company working on the project faced financial difficulties in 2010. However, the project continued, and people are now living there.
Past Land Use
Before the current development, Point Boston was planned for "rural lifestyle" homes in the 1990s. This idea did not become very popular. A part of the area was also used for sand mining in the past. The mining permit has now ended. The land is being cleaned up and restored to its natural state.
Special Places in Point Boston
A special building called The Peninsula is located on Sullivan Drive. This building is a function centre, which means it can be used for events and gatherings. It won an award in South Australia in 2009 for its excellent construction. Sullivan Drive is an important road. It connects the main Lincoln Highway to the very tip of Point Boston.
