Exploring Point Possession's Location
Point Possession is named after a specific landform on the northwest side of the Kenai Peninsula. This point marks the southern entrance to Turnagain Arm, which is a narrow body of water leading into Cook Inlet.
How Big is Point Possession?
The CDP stretches for about 27 miles (43 kilometers) along the coast of Cook Inlet. It goes southwest from the main point all the way to the mouth of the Swanson River. On the other side of the Swanson River is another CDP called Nikiski.
Getting Around Point Possession
Part of the Kenai Spur Highway reaches Point Possession near the Swanson River. However, this road soon ends within the Captain Cook State Recreation Area. From there, the highway leads southwest for 27 miles (43 kilometers) to the city of Kenai. Most of Point Possession can only be reached by special four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Land Area and Homes
The total area of the Point Possession CDP is about 41.98 square miles (108.7 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water. Even though only a few people live there permanently, a survey in 2010 found 214 housing units. This suggests that many of these might be cabins or seasonal homes.
