Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! (often called DPA) is a fun Pokémon manga series. It's based on the popular Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum video games. The story and art are created by Shigekatsu Ihara. The manga was first published by Shogakukan in Japan.
All eight books have been translated into English. You can find them in North America thanks to Viz Media. A publisher in Singapore, Chuang Yi, also released the English versions.
The Story of Hareta's Journey
This manga follows a young boy named Hareta. He lives in the woods with Pokémon, which helps him understand them really well. Hareta's big goal is to find the legendary Pokémon, Dialga.
Hareta's First Steps
In the first book, Hareta meets Mitsumi, who helps Professor Rowan. He also meets a boy named Jun. Professor Rowan gives Hareta his very first Pokémon, a Piplup. Hareta earns his first Gym Badge, the Coal Badge. He also has his first encounter with the mysterious Team Galactic. Hareta even bites one of their members! He also catches a Shinx.
Contests and Confrontations
In the second book, Hareta tries his first Pokémon Contest. Mitsumi also enters and almost wins! Hareta meets Team Galactic again in Celestic Town. He gets into a fight with their leader, Cyrus. Cyrus even tries to get Hareta to join his team. After losing to Cyrus, Hareta is rescued by Byron. Hareta challenges Byron but loses again.
Training and New Friends
Byron tells Hareta to go to Iron Island to train. There, Hareta meets Riley, who gives him a Pokémon egg. Hareta and Riley team up to defeat Team Galactic once more. Hareta's egg hatches into a Riolu! Hareta trains for a whole month. He comes out stronger with new Pokémon like Onix, Geodude, and Zubat.
Battles for Legendary Pokémon
Book three features a big battle between Team Galactic and Hareta. They are fighting over the legendary Pokémon, Azelf. Hareta, with help from all the Gym leaders, defeats Team Galactic. He wins by using Azelf's amazing willpower.
In book four, Hareta meets Gym Leader Candice and wins his battle against her. He then captures the powerful legendary Pokémon, Regigigas. Byron, Hareta, and other Gym Leaders try to attack Team Galactic's headquarters. However, most of them get caught. Hareta discovers that his best friend, Mitsumi, has joined Team Galactic! Hareta fights her, and their battle continues into book five.
Hareta eventually defeats Mitsumi. He then faces Cyrus, who has gathered three legendary Pokémon. Cyrus starts to create the Red Chain, which he plans to use to control Dialga.
Main Characters
Hareta
Hareta (Japanese: ハレタ) is the main hero of the story. He is the adopted grandson of Professor Rowan. Hareta grew up in the forest with wild Pokémon, almost thinking he was one of them! His clothes look like Lucas from the games, but his hair is very different.
Piplup
Piplup (Japanese: Pochama) is Hareta's first Pokémon. As they spend more time together, Hareta and Piplup become very close friends. This strong bond helps them win many battles.
Mitsumi
Mitsumi (Japanese: ミツミ) is another main character and Professor Rowan's helper. Her clothes are similar to Dawn from the games, but she has a unique hairstyle. Mitsumi was an orphan raised by Team Galactic. She became very close to Pokémon, which made her easy for Team Galactic to trick.
She was sent to destroy Professor Rowan's lab. But Rowan convinced her that Pokémon are more than just tools. So, she left Team Galactic and became Rowan's assistant. Later, she joined Hareta to find Dialga. When she went to Lake Acuity, Cyrus captured her Eevee. To save her Eevee, Mitsumi was forced to rejoin Team Galactic and fight Hareta. After losing, she quit Team Galactic again.
Jun
Jun (Japanese: ジュン) is based on Barry from the games. He is a good friend to Hareta. Professor Rowan thought it would be good for Jun to travel and see the world. So, Jun became a Pokémon Trainer and traveled with Mitsumi and Piplup.
Byron
Byron (Japanese: トウガン Tougan) finds Hareta after Cyrus defeats him. Byron helps Hareta get his strength back. He then puts Hareta through tough training, similar to what he did with Roark years ago.
Cyrus
Cyrus (Japanese: アカギ Akagi) is the powerful leader of Team Galactic. He is the main villain Hareta and his friends must face.
