They were first announced by Nintendo on January 8, 2013. Both games were released worldwide on October 12, 2013. Pokémon X and Y were special because they were the very first main Pokémon games to feature full 3D graphics.

Discover New Pokémon and Types

When Pokémon X and Y were announced, many new Pokémon were shown. These included the three starter Pokémon that players could choose at the beginning of their adventure.

Starter Pokémon Choices

  • Chespin: A Grass-type Pokémon that looks like a small hedgehog.
  • Fennekin: A Fire-type Pokémon that resembles a fox.
  • Froakie: A Water-type Pokémon that looks like a frog.

Legendary Pokémon of Kalos

The games also introduced two powerful legendary Pokémon. These special Pokémon are often important to the story.

  • Yveltal: A bird-like Pokémon. Its shape looks a bit like the letter Y.
  • Xerneas: A deer-like Pokémon. It has X-shapes in its eyes.

Introducing the Fairy-type

Pokémon X and Y brought a brand-new Pokémon type into the game: the Fairy-type. This new type is very strong against Dragon-type Pokémon. Some older Pokémon also became part Fairy-type, like Jigglypuff, Marill, and Gardevoir.

Explore Mega Evolution Power-Ups

A cool new feature in Pokémon X and Y is called Mega Evolution. This allows certain Pokémon to become even stronger during a battle.

How Mega Evolution Works

To use Mega Evolution, a Pokémon needs to hold a special item called a Mega Stone. When activated in battle, the Pokémon changes into a more powerful "Mega" form. This form is much stronger than its normal form.
