Pomeroy is a small city located in Calhoun County, Iowa, in the United States. It's a quiet place where people live and work. According to the 2020 census, about 526 people call Pomeroy home.

History of Pomeroy
Pomeroy was first planned out in 1870. This happened because people expected a railroad to be built through the area soon. The city was named after Charles Pomeroy, who was an important politician from Iowa.
A very powerful tornado hit Pomeroy on July 6, 1893. Experts later estimated it was an F5 tornado, which is the strongest kind. The tornado was about 500 yards wide and traveled for 55 miles. It destroyed around 80% of the homes in Pomeroy. Sadly, 71 people died and 200 were hurt.

Pomeroy is located in Iowa at specific coordinates: 42.548395 degrees North and -94.683541 degrees West.
The United States Census Bureau says that Pomeroy covers a total area of 2.04 square miles (5.3 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
Pomeroy is also located within the western part of something called the Manson crater. This is an impact structure, like a giant bowl shape, that is now buried under layers of dirt and rocks left behind by glaciers.

Public schools in Pomeroy are part of the Pocahontas Area Community School District. Before this, Pomeroy had its own school district until 1993. Then it joined with another district to form the Pomeroy–Palmer Community School District. In 2012, that district became part of the Pocahontas Area School District.
