Geography of Popponesset
Popponesset is in the southern part of Mashpee town. Sometimes, it is called Popponesset Beach on maps. To its north and west is another community called New Seabury. To the northeast, across Popponesset Creek, is Popponesset Island.
The southern edge of Popponesset is Nantucket Sound. This is a body of water. A narrow strip of land called the Popponesset Spit extends into the sound. This spit separates Popponesset from Popponesset Bay.
The Popponesset CDP covers a total area of about 0.8 square kilometers (0.32 square miles). A small part of this area, about 0.03 square kilometers (0.02 square miles), is water.
