History of Portsmouth
The first person to settle permanently in Portsmouth was William Williams. He built a log cabin home there sometime in the 1860s.
Portsmouth officially began in 1882. This was when the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railway planned and laid out the town along its train tracks.
