Potrero is a small community in San Diego County, California. Its name comes from the Spanish word for "Pasture." It is located in the Mountain Empire area, which is in the southeastern part of San Diego County.

Potrero is very close to the border with Mexico. Its nearest neighbor across the border is Tecate, a city in Mexico. The name "Potrero" truly means "pasture land" in Spanish, which describes the area's natural landscape.
