Presbyterianism facts for kids
Presbyterianism is a type of Protestant Christianity. It started in Scotland with a leader named John Knox. This faith became very important in England during the Civil War. Today, you can find Presbyterian churches all over the world.
People who follow Presbyterianism are called Presbyterians. They believe the Bible is the most important book in their faith. They see it as God's word, given to humans without any mistakes. Presbyterians also believe that God has control over everything. They think God chooses certain people to follow Jesus Christ, and only those followers can go to heaven. This idea is part of a belief system called Calvinism.

What Presbyterians Believe
Presbyterians believe the Bible is the true word of God. They think it guides them in every part of their lives. They also believe in God's great power. This means they trust that God has a plan for everything. They feel that God chooses who will follow Jesus. This belief is a key part of their faith.
Church Leaders and Services
Presbyterian churches are led by Ministers, Rectors, or Elders. Some Presbyterian churches also have women serving as elders. There is no single leader for all Presbyterian churches. They do not have bishops, unlike some other Christian groups.
On Sundays, a worship service is held. The most important part of this service is reading from the Bible. The minister also gives a sermon, which is a talk about the Bible's teachings. Sometimes, a choir sings worship songs during the service.
Presbyterianism Around the World
The Presbyterian Church (USA) helped start the Korea Presbyterian Church. After Korea became independent, a new group formed. It was called the 'Presbyterian Church in Korea (KoRyuPa)'. This group followed ideas from Dutch Reformed churches. In 2012, a new group called the Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Korea said they continued the original teachings of John Knox.
