The President of the Republic of Yemen is the main leader of the country Yemen. This person is like the head of the country. According to Yemen's rules, the president is also the top commander of the country's armed forces. They also lead the main part of the Yemeni government.
Since April 7, 2022, a group called the Presidential Leadership Council has been doing the president's job. This council is led by a chairman. The chairman of this council has many important powers. These powers include leading the military and choosing important government officials.

What Does the President Do?
The president of Yemen is the head of state. This means they are the official representative of the country. They also lead the Armed Forces. This makes them responsible for the country's defense.
The president is also in charge of the executive branch. This part of the government makes sure laws are carried out. It also manages the daily work of the government.
A Look at Yemen's Leaders
The first president of a united Yemen was Ali Abdullah Saleh. He served for the longest time. After him, Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi became president on February 27, 2012.
Mr. Hadi's time as president faced some challenges. His term was supposed to end in 2014. However, he stayed in power longer. In January 2015, he announced he would resign. Later, in February 2015, he said he was still president while in Aden.
On April 7, 2022, Mr. Hadi announced his resignation on TV. He also removed his vice president. He then gave all presidential powers to the Presidential Leadership Council.
The Presidential Leadership Council
The current leader of the Presidential Leadership Council is Rashad al-Alimi. He used to be an interior minister. After becoming chairman, Mr. al-Alimi visited Saudi Arabia. He met with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed. This visit was to get support for peace efforts in Yemen.
However, another group also claims to lead Yemen. This group is the Houthi Supreme Political Council. Their chairman is Mahdi al-Mashat. Only Iran recognizes him as the leader.
