History of Prestonville
The land where Prestonville now stands was once given to a soldier named Colonel William Preston. He received this land for his service during the American Revolution.
When Was Prestonville Established?
The town of Prestonville was officially created, or chartered, in 1797. This means it was given legal rights to exist as a town. Later, in 1867, it became an incorporated city. This gave it more official powers and its own local government.
Early Post Office Services
A post office first opened in Prestonville in 1844, but it closed a few years later in 1849. Another post office opened nearby in 1880. It was called Wideawake before it moved to Prestonville in 1893.
