Pretty Nose (born around 1851) was a brave Arapaho woman. She is known for taking part in the famous Battle of the Little Bighorn. She lived a very long life, reaching at least 101 years old. People say she even became a war chief!

Pretty Nose's Life Story
Pretty Nose was part of the Arapaho people. Sometimes, old records mistakenly called her Cheyenne. But her special red, black, and white beaded cuffs showed she was Arapaho.
Taking Part in Battle
In 1876, Pretty Nose joined a group of Cheyenne and Arapaho warriors. They fought in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. This was a very important battle in history.
A Long and Important Life
Pretty Nose lived to be very old. She was at least 101 years old when her descendant, Mark Soldier Wolf, came home. Mark Soldier Wolf was an Arapaho elder who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. When he returned to the Wind River Indian Reservation in 1952, Pretty Nose was there to see him. Mark Soldier Wolf said that the cuffs she wore showed she was a war chief.
Pretty Nose in Books
Pretty Nose's story has even appeared in books. She was a character in the 2017 novel The Vengeance of Mothers: The Journals of Margaret Kelly & Molly McGill by Jim Fergus.
