Pretzelmaker's Story
How Pretzelmaker Started
The very first Pretzelmaker store opened in 1991. It was started by a person named Jeffery Tripp. He wanted to make it easy for people all over the country to open their own Pretzelmaker stores. This is called franchising.
The company grew very quickly! By 1995, there were 40 stores open. A group of investors bought the company that year. They helped Pretzelmaker become a popular spot in shopping malls, especially on the West Coast.
This new group helped open many more stores. In just three years, the number of stores grew from 11 to 288. They even opened stores in other countries like Canada and Singapore. In 1998, Pretzelmaker was named the fastest-growing food franchise in the U.S.
The Story of Pretzel Time
Around the same time, another pretzel company started. It was called Pretzel Time. The first Pretzel Time store opened in Connecticut in 1991. It also became a popular franchise in malls, especially in the Northeast U.S.
Joining Forces
In 1999, a company called Mrs. Fields Famous Brands bought Pretzelmaker. Later, in 2007, another company called NexCen bought Pretzelmaker from Mrs. Fields.
Then, in 2010, a company called Global Franchise Group (GFG) bought NexCen. GFG decided to combine Pretzel Time and Pretzelmaker into one big brand. They kept the name Pretzelmaker. Today, Pretzelmaker is one of the biggest sellers of fresh, hand-rolled pretzels.
More recently, in 2021, Global Franchise Group was bought by FAT Brands. FAT Brands owns other well-known food chains like Fatburger.
