Priam (pronounced PRI-am) was a famous king in Greek mythology. He was the powerful ruler of the city of Troy during the time of the great Trojan War. This war was one of the most important events in ancient Greek stories.

Priam was known for his large family. He had many children, and his main wife was Hecuba. With Hecuba, he had two of his most well-known sons: Hector, who was a brave and respected warrior, and Paris, whose actions led to the start of the Trojan War.

King of Troy

Priam became king of Troy after his father, Laomedon. Under his rule, Troy became a rich and strong city. It was known for its tall walls and powerful army. Priam was a wise king who cared deeply for his people and his family.

Priam's Family

Priam had many children, both sons and daughters. His most famous sons were:

  • Hector: He was the greatest Trojan warrior and a hero who defended his city bravely.
  • Paris: He was known for his good looks. The story goes that Paris caused the Trojan War by taking Helen, the wife of a Greek king, to Troy.
  • Cassandra: One of Priam's daughters, she was a prophetess who could see the future but was cursed so that no one would ever believe her warnings.

The Trojan War

The Trojan War lasted for ten long years. It was a huge conflict between the Trojans and the Greeks. Priam led his people through this difficult time, watching his city suffer and many of his children fight and die. He showed great strength and sadness as the war continued.

The Fall of Troy and Priam's Death

Near the end of the Trojan War, the Greeks finally entered Troy by using the famous Trojan Horse. The city was attacked and destroyed. During this terrible time, Priam, who was an old man, was killed. He was killed by Neoptolemus, who was the son of the great Greek hero Achilles. Priam's death marked the end of Troy and the end of the Trojan War.
