The Prime Minister's Role Over Time
The job of Prime Minister in Senegal has changed a few times since 1960. Sometimes the position has been removed, and then brought back later.
When the Role Was Removed and Returned
In 2019, after being chosen again by President Macky Sall, Prime Minister Mohammed Dionne announced a big change. President Sall wanted to get rid of the Prime Minister's job. His idea was to let the President be more directly in charge of the government. This meant there would be no "middle person" between the President and the other ministers.
However, in November 2021, President Macky Sall announced that the job of Prime Minister would return. So, the position was brought back into the government.
