Princess's Music Journey
Princess started her career working as a secretary. Before becoming a solo artist, she sang backup for the band Osibisa in the early 1980s. She also sang on the album Kiss The Lips of Life by the band Brilliant. This helped her get noticed by famous music producers Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW).
Princess also provided backup vocals for other artists like Precious Wilson and Evelyn "Champagne" King. In 1985, she worked with a group called 501's. They released a song called "Let the Night Take the Blame," but it did not become a hit.
First Album Success
Her first solo album, simply called Princess, was released in 1986. The famous producers SAW created and produced this album. It included her biggest hit, "Say I'm Your Number One". The album had five songs that became popular and earned a Silver award in the UK. This means it sold many copies!
Later Albums and Break
After her first album, Princess signed with Polydor records. She recorded her second album, All for Love, in 1987 in the United States. However, this album and its songs were not as successful.
Her third album, Say It, was planned for release in 1990. But Princess decided to take a break from music and moved to the US. She later returned to singing backup. She appeared on the Vanilla Ice album To the Extreme in 1990.
Returning to Music
Princess lived in the US from 1991 to 2003. Then, she moved back to England. She started her own music company called OnDa Ground Music Label with her brother, Donovan. This label has released all her music since then.
In 2004, she released her first new song in 14 years, called "Ride." She also made a music video for it. In 2005, Princess appeared on an ITV show called Hit Me, Baby, One More Time. On the show, she sang Kylie Minogue's song "Slow".
In April 2014, Princess released her third album, The Emergence. This was her first album in 27 years! It is the first part of a series of three albums. The other two are called The Passion and The One. In March 2019, she released "The Passion Part 1" as an EP (a shorter album).
In May 2021, Princess shared a preview of her song "Silhouettes in the Dark" on her YouTube channel. In July of that year, she and her brother Donovan were interviewed on a podcast called "A Journey Through Soul." They returned to the podcast in November.
On February 14, 2023, she released a new song called "Will You Call Me." This song is from her upcoming album, "The Passion."
