Early Life of Princess Louisa Anne
Princess Louisa Anne was born at Leicester House in London. This happened on March 19, 1749. She was christened, which is a special naming ceremony, on April 11.
Her father was Frederick, Prince of Wales. He was the oldest son of King George II. Her mother was Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha.
Louisa Anne had several godparents. These included her uncle, Prince Frederick of Hesse-Kassel. Her aunts, the Queen of Denmark and the Princess of Orange, were also godparents. Other people represented them at the ceremony.
She was very close to her sister, Caroline Matilda. They were close in age and grew up together.
Princess Louisa Anne's Health Challenges
Princess Louisa Anne was not very healthy. She had a delicate health throughout her life. One person who knew her said she always looked like a "sickly child."
Her health issues became a problem when people tried to arrange her marriage.
Marriage Plans and Health Concerns
In 1764, there were talks about Princess Louisa Anne getting married. The idea was for her to marry Prince Christian, who would become the future King of Denmark. This marriage seemed like a good idea for both royal families. There were not many Protestant royal families to choose from at that time.
Princess Louisa Anne was the first choice for the Danish prince. However, the Danish representative in London learned about her poor health. Because of this, her younger sister, Caroline Matilda, was chosen instead. The marriage of Caroline Matilda was announced in Great Britain on January 10, 1765.
In the same year, 1764, another marriage proposal came for Princess Louisa Anne. This was from Adolphus Frederick IV, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. He was her brother's brother-in-law. But again, the talks stopped because of worries about her health.
Later Life and Passing
By the time her sister Caroline Matilda left for Denmark in 1766, Louisa Anne's health was getting worse. She was suffering from a serious illness called tuberculosis. This disease eventually made her an invalid, meaning she could not move around easily.
Princess Louisa Anne passed away at Carlton House in London. She was only 19 years old. She died on May 13, 1768. She never married and did not have any children.
