Prosenik Peak facts for kids
Prosenik Peak (Bulgarian: връх Просеник, romanized: vrah Prosenik) is a mountain peak in Antarctica. It stands about 2,800 meters (9,186 feet) tall. This peak is found in the Doyran Heights, which is part of the southeast Sentinel Range in the Ellsworth Mountains.
Prosenik Peak overlooks two large ice rivers, called glaciers. To its southeast, it stands above the Thomas Glacier. To its east-northeast, it overlooks the Hough Glacier.
What's in a Name?
Prosenik Peak gets its name from a place in Eastern Bulgaria. It is named after a small town or village called Prosenik in the Burgas Province of Bulgaria.
Where is Prosenik Peak Located?
Prosenik Peak is located at coordinates 78°32′11″S 84°57′38″W / 78.53639°S 84.96056°W. This means it is in the southern part of the world, in a very cold and icy region.
The peak is surrounded by other interesting mountains:
- It is about 4.75 kilometers (2.95 miles) north-northeast of Elfring Peak.
- It is about 3.78 kilometers (2.35 miles) northeast of Mount Mohl.
- It is about 4.12 kilometers (2.56 miles) south-southwest of Mount Tuck.
- It is about 4.45 kilometers (2.77 miles) west-northwest of McPherson Peak.
The area around Prosenik Peak was first mapped by the United States in 1961. These maps were later updated in 1988 to be even more accurate.
