How Mount Tuck Was Discovered and Named
Explorers first mapped Mount Tuck between 1957 and 1959. This mapping was done by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). They used surveys and aerial photos taken by the United States Navy.
The mountain was later given its name by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN). This committee is responsible for naming places in Antarctica. They named it after Lieutenant John Tuck Jr.. He was a leader who supported the U.S. Navy operations at the South Pole Station in 1957.
