The Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam, often called the PRG, was a temporary government in Asia. It existed from 1969 to 1976 during the Vietnam War. This government was set up with help from North Vietnam and a group called the Viet Cong.
For most of its existence, the PRG was an "underground government." This means it operated secretly against the main government of South Vietnam. In 1975, the PRG officially took control of Southern Vietnam. It then became like a "puppet state," meaning it was controlled by North Vietnam. The PRG eventually joined with North Vietnam in 1976 to form the country we now know as Vietnam.
