Puntas is a special neighborhood, called a barrio, located in the town of Rincón, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,575 people lived there.
Puntas is famous for its amazing waves, which are great for surfing. It's also a fantastic spot for whale watching, where you can see whales in the ocean!

History of Puntas
Becoming Part of the United States
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Because of this, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States.
Early Population Counts
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census showed that 1,006 people lived in the Puntas barrio at that time.
