Pureba Conservation Park: A Special Place

Pureba Conservation Park is a place where nature is protected. It helps keep important plants and animals safe. This park is managed by the Department for Environment and Water. It is also co-managed with the Far West Coast Aboriginal Corporation.

What is a Conservation Park?

A conservation park is a type of protected area. It is set aside to protect nature and wildlife. These areas help keep ecosystems healthy for the future. Pureba Conservation Park is part of a larger group of protected lands. This group is called the Yellabinna Reserves.

History of Pureba Park

Pureba Conservation Park was first created on 25 January 1990. It was set up under a law called the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. Later, more land was added to the park. This happened on 29 June 2006. This extra land included an area that was already a conservation reserve.

Working Together to Protect Nature

Pureba Conservation Park is managed as part of the Yellabinna Reserves. This group also includes other parks like Boondina Conservation Park and Yumbarra Conservation Park. Together, these parks protect over three million hectares of mallee woodland. Mallee woodland is a type of forest with many small eucalyptus trees.

The park is managed in a special way. It uses an "integrated and collaborative approach." This means different groups work together. The Far West Coast Aboriginal Corporation helps manage the park. They signed an agreement with the Government of South Australia in 2013. This agreement helps them give advice on managing Pureba Conservation Park and other nearby reserves.

Rules and Special Uses

Pureba Conservation Park is a special place. It does not have facilities for visitors. You cannot drive public vehicles inside the park.

The park is classified by the IUCN as a Category VI protected area. This means it is a protected area where people can use natural resources in a sustainable way. For example, Aboriginal people are allowed to hunt and gather food in the park. This is part of their traditional culture. Also, mineral exploration and mining are allowed in some parts of the conservation park.
