Putt-Putt Enters the Race is a fun adventure game made for kids. It was developed by Humongous Entertainment and came out in 1998. This game is the fifth one in the popular Putt-Putt series. It's also one of two games where Nancy Cartwright (who voices Bart Simpson!) is the voice of Putt-Putt.
Game Story: The Cartown 500
In Putt-Putt Enters the Race, Putt-Putt and his dog, Pep, get an exciting letter. It's from Redline Rick, inviting Putt-Putt to join the big Cartown 500 race! Putt-Putt has been waiting for this race all year, so he definitely wants to enter.
But first, Putt-Putt needs to find a few special items around Cartown to get ready. He has to collect:
- Super speedy racing tires
- High-powered gasoline
- A safety helmet for Pep
- A special triangular flag with his race number on it
Once Putt-Putt finds all these items, he can finally enter the race. At the end of the race, Redline Rick announces the winner. If Putt-Putt wins first place, he gets a medal and a trophy! If he doesn't win first, he still gets a ribbon for trying his best.
How the Game Was Promoted
Putt-Putt Enters the Race was first shown to the public at a big event called the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Atlanta. This happened from May 28 to 30, 1998.
Ralph Giuffre, who worked for Humongous Entertainment, was very excited about the game. He said that for the first time, kids would get to "sit in Putt-Putt's driver's seat" and race around the Cartown Speedway.
In January 1999, the Humongous Entertainment website held a special online celebration for the game. During this week, players could download free demos of the game. They could also play online games and enter contests at "Putt-Putt's Pit Stop."
Later, in December 1999, Humongous Entertainment worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This was a holiday event where people could help a good cause. Customers could donate money to the Make-A-Wish Foundation when they bought certain Humongous games, including Putt-Putt Enters the Race.
Game Success
Putt-Putt Enters the Race was quite popular. According to PC Data, a company that tracked sales, the game was a top seller.
For the week ending January 16, it was the 5th best-selling educational game across many stores. By the week ending May 1, it was the 9th best-selling home-education software. This shows that many kids and families enjoyed playing Putt-Putt's racing adventure!
