Pyotr Petrovich Stepanov (Russian: Пётр Петро́вич Степа́нов; born on January 2, 1959) is a politician from Transnistria. He was the very first Prime Minister of Transnistria. He held this important job from January 18, 2012, until July 10, 2013.
Who is Pyotr Stepanov?
Pyotr Stepanov was born in 1959 in a place called Sankino, which was part of the Soviet Union. Today, this area is in Russia. He became a well-known figure in Transnistrian politics.
Becoming Prime Minister
In 2012, Transnistria created the role of Prime Minister. Pyotr Stepanov was the first person to hold this position. The new President, Yevgeny Shevchuk, suggested Stepanov for the job. Most of the politicians in the Renewal Party supported him, and he was chosen to lead the government.
His Time as Prime Minister
As Prime Minister, Pyotr Stepanov was in charge of the government of Transnistria. He worked with a team of ministers, who were like heads of different departments. His job was to help the President manage the country's affairs. He served for about a year and a half.
After His Term
Pyotr Stepanov retired from his role as Prime Minister on July 10, 2013. After he left, President Shevchuk chose Tatiana Turanskaya to take his place. She had been a Deputy Prime Minister before. The Supreme Council, which is like the parliament, agreed with her nomination. Tatiana Turanskaya then became the second Prime Minister of Transnistria.
