A Look Back: Quebrada's History
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is a part of the U.S. but not a state.
Early Population Counts
In 1899, the United States Department of War took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. During this census, they found that 1,198 people lived in the Quebrada barrio. Over the years, the number of people living in Quebrada has grown quite a bit.
