A Look Back: History of Quebrada Ceiba
Puerto Rico has a long and interesting history. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government wanted to know how many people lived in Puerto Rico. They did a special count called a census. This count showed that 1,006 people lived in the Quebrada Ceiba barrio at that time. The population has grown quite a bit since then!
