Quevedo is a lively city in Ecuador, found in the Los Ríos Province. It's the main city of Quevedo Canton, and it was officially started in 1943. About 177,792 people live there, based on the latest count from 2022.
The city is about 237 kilometers (147 miles) southwest of Quito, Ecuador's capital. It's also 183 kilometers (114 miles) northeast of Guayaquil, the country's main port city. Quevedo is growing quickly and is famous for its farming traditions.
Quevedo's farms and factories are big exporters of bananas, cacao, passion fruit, and coffee beans around the world. Recently, other businesses like finance and education have also grown a lot.
Even though Quevedo is inland, its location is important for connecting different parts of Ecuador. It links major coastal cities like Guayaquil, Santo Domingo, and Manta with cities in the Andes mountains, such as Ambato and Quito. The city is located near the Vinces River, which flows into the Pacific Ocean. Because of this, Quevedo can sometimes experience flooding.

Economy and Trade
Quevedo is a very important farming center in Ecuador. All the main roads in the region, including the Pan-American highway, meet here.
Farming and Products
The land around Quevedo is very fertile. It mainly grows bananas, corn, rice, and soybeans. The rich soil helps farmers get great harvests all year long.
Many banana farmers also grow corn, soy, and rice during the wet season. In the city, these crops are often turned into food products for supermarkets. This includes instant meals, pre-packaged foods, and noodles.
In recent years, Quevedo's food industry has also started making organic products. These are sold both locally and to other countries. This adds more value to the city's farm goods.
Geography and Climate
Tropical Climate
Quevedo has a tropical wet climate. This means it's usually warm and rainy. Combined with rich volcanic soils, these conditions are perfect for farming.

Because of this, Quevedo is sometimes called the "Chinatown of Ecuador." This gives the city a special cultural feel compared to other Ecuadorian cities.
Quevedo is also a center for "montubio" folklore. This is a sub-culture that comes from the customs of the first settlers in the area. These settlers lived in the "monte," which means the agricultural fields. Their traditions are an important part of the local culture.
The city celebrates its founding day every year on October 7.
