Quinton Lenord Ross (born April 30, 1981) is an American who used to play professional basketball. He played college basketball for the SMU Mustangs. After college, he played in the NBA for several teams. These teams included the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, and New Jersey Nets.

High School and College Basketball

Quinton Ross was a talented basketball player from a young age. He led his high school team, Justin F. Kimball High School in Dallas, to the state finals. Even though his team played very well, they lost in the championship game.

After high school, Quinton went to Southern Methodist University (SMU). He studied economics there. When he finished college in 2003, he was not chosen in the 2003 NBA draft. This means no NBA team picked him right away.

During his four years at SMU, Quinton played 119 games. He scored an average of 14.8 points per game. He also grabbed 5.5 rebounds and made 1.9 assists per game. By the time he finished, he was the fourth highest scorer in SMU's history. He scored a total of 1,763 points. In 2003, he was named to the All-Conference USA first team.

Quinton Ross's Professional Career

After college, Quinton Ross started his professional basketball journey. He first tried out for the Los Angeles Clippers. He played five games with them before the regular season began. He averaged 5.4 points in those games. However, the Clippers decided not to keep him on their team.

Playing Overseas

After leaving the Clippers, Quinton went to play basketball in Belgium. He signed with a team called Telindus Oostende for the 2003-2004 season. While playing overseas, he did very well. He averaged 16.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Back to the NBA

Quinton's good performance in Belgium helped him get another chance in the NBA. On August 16, 2004, he signed a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. He played for the Clippers for several seasons.

On January 17, 2007, Quinton had one of his best games. He scored 24 points in a win against the Golden State Warriors. Before that, his highest score was 18 points. This happened on May 18, 2006, during a playoff game against the Phoenix Suns.

Moving to New Teams

Over the next few years, Quinton Ross played for different NBA teams.

Later Career

After his time in the NBA, Quinton Ross continued to play basketball. During the 2012-2013 season, he played for a French team. This team was called Boulazac. He retired from professional basketball in 2013.

Awards and Honors

Quinton Ross received several awards for his excellent play:

  • He was named the WAC Player of the Year in the 2002-2003 season.
  • He also earned First Team All-WAC honors in 2003.
  • The Associated Press gave him an Honorable Mention All-America award in 2003.
