Ránquil is a small area in Chile. It is a type of local government area called a commune. Ránquil is found in the Itata Province within the Ñuble Region. The main town and capital of this commune is also called Ránquil.

People Living in Ránquil
How Many People Live Here?
A census is like a big count of all the people in an area. The National Statistics Institute in Chile did a census in 2002. It showed that Ránquil had 5,683 people living there.
Out of these people, 2,896 were men and 2,787 were women. Most people lived in rural areas, which are like the countryside. About 4,346 people lived in rural areas. Only 1,337 people lived in urban areas, which are towns or cities.
Population Changes Over Time
Between 1992 and 2002, the number of people living in Ránquil actually went down. The population dropped by 721 people, which is about 11.3% fewer residents.
How Ránquil is Governed
Local Government and Leaders
Ránquil is a third-level administrative area in Chile. This means it has its own local government. A municipal council helps run the commune.
The main leader of the commune is called an alcalde. The people of Ránquil vote directly for their alcalde every four years. From 2008 to 2012, the alcalde was Carlos Garrido Carcamo. He was part of the UDI political party.
Representing Ránquil in Chile's Government
Ránquil is part of a larger area for voting in Chile. This area helps choose people to represent them in the country's main government.
In the Chamber of Deputies, which is like one part of Chile's parliament, Ránquil is represented by two people. These representatives are Jorge Sabag from the PDC and Frank Sauerbaum from the RN party. They represent a big area that includes many other communes like San Fabián, Ñiquén, San Carlos, and more.
For the Senate, which is the other part of Chile's parliament, Ránquil is represented by two senators. They are Alejandro Navarro Brain from the MAS party and Hosain Sabag Castillo from the PDC party. They represent the 12th senatorial area, known as Biobío-Cordillera.
