Río Arriba is a small community, also known as a barrio, located in the town of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 352 people lived there. It is a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.

History of Río Arriba
Becoming Part of the United States
After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico was given to the United States by Spain. This happened under an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is a territory that belongs to the U.S. but is not fully a state.
Early Population Count
In 1899, the United States Department of War took a count of the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that the combined population of Río Arriba and a nearby area called Río Abajo was 1,092 people.
