RMJM stands for Robert Matthew Johnson Marshall. It is one of the biggest architecture and design groups in the world. The company designs buildings and spaces for many different clients.
RMJM offers many services, including:
- Architecture (designing buildings)
- Engineering (making sure buildings are safe and work well)
- Interior design (designing the inside of buildings)
- Landscape design (designing outdoor areas like parks)
- Master planning (planning entire neighborhoods or cities)
- Urban design (making cities better places to live)
The company was started in 1956 by two architects, Robert Matthew and Stirrat Johnson-Marshall. From the beginning, RMJM was known for its modern style. They often found inspiration in different cultures from all over the world.
History
RMJM was founded in 1956 by Robert Matthew and Stirrat Johnson-Marshall. Their first offices were in London and Edinburgh, Scotland. One of their first big projects was New Zealand House in London. It was called "London's most distinguished 1960s office block."
In the early 1960s, the company designed many buildings for universities in Scotland. These included the University of Edinburgh, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Stirling.

In 1961, the firm added more partners and changed its name to RMJM & Partners. This was when they started working on bigger projects around the world. By 1967, the company had 350 employees in its Edinburgh and London offices.
As more public buildings were needed, RMJM grew. They opened an office in Glasgow and began working on projects outside of Great Britain. In the late 1960s, they started projects in the United States. Later, they expanded to the Middle East and Central Asia, opening more offices in those regions.
Over the next 20 years, RMJM became famous for its modern and practical building designs. In 2009, the firm designed the award-winning Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Singapore. This was their first major project in Southeast Asia.
Around 2010, the company faced some challenges and had to reduce its staff. However, it soon began to grow again. In 2014, RMJM helped plan the Commonwealth Athletes Village in Glasgow, where they designed 700 homes.
In 2016, RMJM created special studios for specific types of projects, called RMJM Sport and RMJM Healthcare. In recent years, RMJM has designed many important buildings, including the Lakhta Center in Russia, the Evolution Tower in Moscow, and the North Terminal at Sheremetyevo Airport.
