Randall Thorne, known as RT! or R.T. Thorne, is a talented Canadian writer, producer, and director. He started his career directing music videos for famous artists like Sean Paul and Keshia Chanté. Later, he directed episodes for popular TV shows such as Degrassi: The Next Generation, Make It Pop, Backstage, and Find Me in Paris. He has won three iHeartRadio MMVAs for his directing work.

In 2020, Thorne created and produced the exciting science fiction series Utopia Falls for hulu. In 2022, he directed and was an executive producer for the CBC Television historical drama The Porter. For this show, he received special recognition at the Canadian Screen Awards.

R.T. Thorne was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He began his career directing many successful music videos. He even worked with international music stars like Drake and Snoop Dogg. After winning 17 international awards for his music videos, R.T. Thorne started working on longer films and TV shows in 2012.

Helping Young Creators

R.T. Thorne cares about helping young people get into creative jobs. He is part of the leadership team for The Remix Project. This is a non-profit group that helps young people who might not have many chances to get involved in creative industries.

In 2009, The Remix Project teamed up with other companies to start CITYLIFE. This program helped young people from inner cities create their own short films. R.T. Thorne was the Director of Programs for CITYLIFE. He led workshops and mentored young participants, teaching them how to direct their own stories.

Award-Winning Projects

In 2015, R.T. Thorne wrote, directed, and co-produced a short film called The Time Traveler. This film won the award for best short film at the Canadian Film Festival.

In 2018, R.T. was chosen for the special Talent Lab at the Toronto International Film Festival. This program helps directors develop their first big movie.

In 2020, R.T. Thorne created Utopia Falls. This is a science fiction series that explores Afrofuturism, a cultural movement that combines African history and culture with science fiction. The show premiered as a HULU Original.

His first full-length movie, 40 Acres, started being made in 2023 in Sudbury, Ontario. It is planned to be released in 2024.
