Raceland is a community located along Bayou Lafourche in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is considered a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined by the government for collecting population data. In 2020, about 9,768 people lived there. Raceland is part of the larger Houma–Bayou Cane–Thibodaux metropolitan area.
The name "Raceland" comes from the Race family. They once owned a big farm called "Raceland Plantation" right on Bayou Lafourche.
The Raceland sugar plantation was started by Ebeneezer Eaton Kittredge and his son-in-law Fayette Clay Ewing. In 1855, Kittredge's daughter, Olivia Corrinne, married George W. Race. The plantation was named Raceland that same year to honor the new couple. It was their first home, and their children were born there.
