Rackerby is a small community in California. It used to be called Hansonville. This place is special because it sits right on the border between two counties: Butte County and Yuba County.

Rackerby is about 24 miles (39 km) north-northeast of Marysville. It is located at an elevation of 1,184 feet (361 meters) above sea level. In 2010, about 204 people lived in Rackerby.

History of Rackerby

The Rackerby post office first opened in 1892. At that time, it was located in Yuba County. Later, in 1930, the post office moved to Butte County. However, it moved back to Yuba County in 1934.

The community was named after William M. Rackerby. He was the very first postmaster for the area.

In 2010, a count of the population, called a census, showed 204 people lived in Rackerby. Most of the people, about 94.6%, were White. A small number were Native Americans or from other backgrounds. About 8.8% of the people were Hispanic or Latino.

Everyone counted lived in homes. No one lived in group homes or institutions. There were 86 homes in Rackerby. About 23% of these homes had children under 18 living there. Most homes, about 54.7%, were married couples. Some homes had a single parent.
