Rahat Indori, whose real name was Rahat Qureshi, was a famous Indian poet and a writer of songs for Bollywood movies. He was born on January 1, 1950, and passed away on August 11, 2020. Besides writing, he was also a professor who taught the Urdu language and a talented painter.

About Rahat Indori
Rahat Indori was born in Indore, India, on January 1, 1950. His father, Rafatullah Qureshi, worked in a cloth mill, and his mother was Maqbool Un Nisa Begum. Rahat was their fourth child.
His Education
Rahat Indori went to Nutan School in Indore for his early education. He finished his high school studies there. Later, he earned his degree from Islamia Karimia College in Indore in 1973. He then completed his Master of Arts (MA) in Urdu literature from Barkatullah University in Bhopal in 1975, where he even won a gold medal! In 1985, he earned a PhD in Urdu literature from Bhoj University. His special study was about Urdu Main Mushaira, which means "Poetry Gatherings in Urdu."
His Poetry Journeys
Rahat Indori was well-known for performing his poetry at events called Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan. These are gatherings where poets share their work. He performed for over 40 years! He traveled all over the world to recite his poems. He visited many places in India and traveled to countries like the US, UK, Canada, Singapore, and many more to share his poetry.
His Final Days
On August 10, 2020, Rahat Indori became sick with COVID-19. He was taken to Aurobindo Hospital in Indore. Sadly, he passed away the next day, on August 11, 2020, due to a heart attack.

Rahat Indori was a popular guest on television shows. He appeared twice on The Kapil Sharma Show, which is a famous Indian comedy and talk show. He also appeared on the show Wah! Wah! Kya Baat Hai! on SAB TV.
Viral Sayings
Some of Rahat Indori's poetic lines became very famous online. One of his couplets, "Bulati Hai Magar Jaane Ka Nahi" (She calls, but don't go), became a huge trend on social media like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram during Valentine's week in 2020. People used it to create funny pictures and videos, known as memes. Another popular line, "Kisi Ke Baap Ka Hindustan Thodi Hai" (India doesn't belong to anyone's father), also became very popular on social media.
Books and Tributes
In 2016, a book about Rahat Indori called 'Mere Baad' was released. This book is a collection of his Ghazals (a type of poem) and Shayari (poetry). On his 71st birthday, January 1, 2021, a special tribute was created for him called "Dr Rahat Indori - Ek Alag Pehchaan." Nine famous Indian artists and musicians worked together to create music based on nine of his famous ghazals and made paintings inspired by his writing.

Rahat Indori was a well-known lyricist, meaning he wrote the words for songs in many Bollywood movies. He wrote songs for popular films like Sir, Khuddar, Yaraana, Murder, and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.. His songs were sung by famous singers and featured in many hit movies.
