Rajanpur (Punjabi: راجن پُور) is a city in Pakistan. It is the main city and headquarters of the Rajanpur District. You can find it in the far southwestern part of Punjab province.
The district of Rajanpur is located entirely to the west of the Indus River. It is a narrow strip of land, about 32 to 64 kilometers (20 to 40 miles) wide. This land is nestled between the Indus River on its east side and the Sulaiman Mountains on its west side. Most people living here are Saraikis and Baloch, with a smaller number of Punjabis.
History of Rajanpur
Rajanpur was founded by a person named Makhdoom Sheikh Rajan Shah. The city gets its name from him. Sheikh Rajan created Rajanpur in an area he had taken from the Nahar tribesmen.
For a long time, Rajanpur was just a small, quiet village. However, things changed in 1862. There was a big flood that badly damaged the nearby city of Mithankot. Mithankot used to be the main government center for the area. Because of the flood, the government offices were moved to Rajanpur.
In the same year, a small clinic, called a dispensary, was opened in Rajanpur. Then, in 1873, Rajanpur officially became a municipality. This means it got its own local government to manage the city.
