Rajdeep Sardesai, born on May 24, 1965, is a well-known Indian journalist, news anchor, and author. He works as a consulting editor and anchor for India Today Television. Before this, he was the main editor for Global Broadcast News, which included channels like CNN-IBN. He left that role in 2014.

Early Life and Education
Rajdeep Sardesai was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. His father, Dilip Sardesai, was a famous Indian Test cricket player. His mother, Nandini, is an activist and used to lead the Sociology Department at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.
Rajdeep went to Campion School, Mumbai and The Cathedral & John Connon School in Mumbai. He then studied economics at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. After that, he went to University College, Oxford in England. There, he earned degrees in law.
Cricket at Oxford
While studying at Oxford, Rajdeep also played first-class cricket for Oxford University Cricket Club. He played six matches for his university team. He also played one match for a combined Oxford and Cambridge University Cricket Club team against the Pakistani touring team in 1987. He was given a special award called a "Blue" for his cricket skills at Oxford.
Career in Journalism
Rajdeep Sardesai started his journalism career in 1988 at The Times of India newspaper. He worked there for six years and became the city editor for the Mumbai edition.
In 1994, he moved to television journalism. He joined New Delhi Television (NDTV) as a political editor. He became the Managing Editor for both NDTV 24X7 and NDTV India. He was in charge of how news was presented on these channels. He also hosted popular shows like The Big Fight on NDTV.
Starting Global Broadcast News
In 2005, Rajdeep left NDTV to start his own company, Global Broadcast News (GBN). He worked with the American news giant CNN and Raghav Bahl's TV18. His new channel, CNN-IBN, started broadcasting on December 17, 2005. Later, another channel called Channel 7 joined GBN and was renamed IBN7.
In 2014, Reliance Industries Ltd took control of Network 18, which owned CNN-IBN and IBN7. After this, Rajdeep Sardesai and the original team resigned from the Network18 group on July 1, 2014.
Joining India Today Group
Since 2014, Rajdeep Sardesai has been a consulting editor with the India Today Group. He hosts a prime time news show on India Today.
Personal Life
Rajdeep Sardesai is married to Sagarika Ghose, who is also a journalist and author. They got married in 1994. Rajdeep and Sagarika have two children: a son named Ishan and a daughter named Tarini.
Awards and Recognition
Rajdeep Sardesai has received several important awards for his work:
- He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2008. This is one of India's highest civilian honors.
- He received the International Broadcasters award for his reporting on the 2002 Gujarat riots.
- He also won the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism award in 2006.
- In 2020, he received a lifetime achievement award at the ENBA awards.
