Rajdeep Sardesai, born on May 24, 1965, is a well-known Indian journalist and news anchor. He is also a reporter and author. He works as a consulting editor and anchor for India Today Television. Before this, he was the main editor for Global Broadcast News. This company included channels like CNN-IBN, IBN7, and IBN-Lokmat. He left that role in July 2014.

Early Life and Education
Rajdeep was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His father was from Goa, and his mother was from Gujarat. His father, Dilip Sardesai, was a famous Indian cricket player who played for the national team. His mother, Nandini, is an activist in Mumbai. She used to lead the Sociology Department at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.
Schooling and College
Rajdeep went to school in Mumbai at Campion School. He also studied at The Cathedral & John Connon School. After school, he earned a degree in economics from St. Xavier's College in Mumbai.
Studies at Oxford
Later, he went to University College, Oxford in England. There, he studied law and earned two degrees. While at Oxford, he also played first-class cricket for the university team. He played six matches for Oxford University. He also played one match for a combined Oxford and Cambridge team. This was against the Pakistani touring team in 1987. He received a special award called a cricket Blue at Oxford for his sports achievements.
Career in Journalism
Rajdeep Sardesai started his journalism career in October 1988. He worked for The Times of India newspaper for six years. He became the city editor for their Mumbai edition.
Moving to Television
In 1994, he moved into television journalism. He joined New Delhi Television (NDTV) as their political editor. He became the Managing Editor for both NDTV 24X7 and NDTV India. In this role, he helped decide the news coverage for both channels. He also hosted popular shows like The Big Fight on NDTV.
Starting Global Broadcast News
On April 17, 2005, he left NDTV. He decided to start his own company called Global Broadcast News (GBN). He worked with the American news company CNN and Raghav Bahl's TV18. This new company launched a channel called CNN-IBN. It began broadcasting on December 17, 2005. Rajdeep was the Editor-in-Chief for this new channel. His company also bought a part of another channel, Channel 7, which was later renamed IBN7.
Current Role
In July 2014, Rajdeep Sardesai and the original team resigned from the Network18 group. This happened after Reliance Industries Ltd took control of Network 18. Since 2014, he has been a consulting editor with the India Today Group. He also hosts a main show on India Today television.
Personal Life
Rajdeep Sardesai is married to Sagarika Ghose. She is also a journalist and author. Rajdeep and Sagarika have two children. Their son, Ishan, is an ENT surgeon. Their daughter's name is Tarini.
Awards and Recognition
Rajdeep Sardesai has received several important awards for his work.
- In 2008, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award. This is one of India's highest civilian awards.
- He received the International Broadcasters award for his reporting on the 2002 Gujarat riots.
- He also won the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism award in 2006.
- In 2020, he received a lifetime achievement award at the ENBA awards.
